About Me (as a person)
I'm not usually much of a people person, if I'm not trying.
If I'm trying, I never know if I'm succeeding. Hello! My name is Lisa, and I just started this off with my usual awkward beginning. Not bad, huh? I'm currently a college student at the University of Notre Dame, where I'm planning to major in design. But who really knows what I'll end up doing, right? Right. If there's anything you need to know about me, it's that I'm awkward and horrible at time management. Those two will usually explain anything I do/say/type. |
There's a lot I do, and there's a lot I don't do.
I sing, play some instruments, dance, act, draw, design, write, read, make videos, listen to music, do makeup, look good, you know, a whole bunch of artsy stuff that not everyone would agree is essential to life. I also actually like learning stuff like math and literature. And I eat and sleep and watch TV and look not-so-good and complain and waste my life away, too.
I don't play many sports, if any (I spent one summer doing a soccer camp and I was undoubtedly the worst player on the practice field). I also don't do a lot of cleaning, organizing, socializing, making friends, cooking, troubleshooting, debating, being funny, exuding savoir faire, or working. I guess they're just not my thing.

You want to know what you can expect from me? Not a whole lot. I don't like making promises because I hate breaking promises. But I will try to consistently update this website with new writings, art, videos, etc., plus a weekly blog post (found in my News tab, wink wink) every Sunday!
Plus, if you ever want someone to talk to, or vent to, or just want to say hi, send me an email or drop by the places I've listed in my Contacts tab! I might be busy, and I might not be able to respond right away, but if I find myself wasting my time again I'll check my inbox and totally be willing to talk. I don't bite. :)

About Me (as an artist)
I am fascinated with combining things you never thought could be combined.
This applies to life very well--think of how many delicious dishes would never have been discovered if nobody had said, "What if I put these two things usually in separate dishes together?" Am I being too vague? Peanut butter and pickles? How about something not food-related... Adult themes and cartoons... Pastel colors and gothic elements... History and hip-hop, anyone? I see myself as a combination of things that seemingly contradict each other, or things that usually stay apart. I'm of mixed ethnicity, for one, but I'm also a scholar and performer, an optimist and a pessimist, self-loving and self-deprecating, and introverted and extroverted, to name a few. Recently, I've seen society really start to accept these mixtures and break down stereotypes and assumptions, and I love it!! |
How does this translate into my art?
Primarily, the media I choose to use. I work with both physical and digital elements and work to marry the two in order to combine different concepts. Digitally, I work with Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro to do all sorts of things ranging from starting things from scratch to stitching together full compositions. Physically, my strengths are in drawing with pencil or ink and coloring with colored pencil, but when I put my mind to it, I can do a lot with paint, collaging, anything, really. Just tell me how to use it and I probably will. :) To combine digital and physical elements, I often draw things on paper, then scan and drop them into Photoshop to provide outlines, textures, or typography with my own personal touch, rather than use pre-made resources all the time. This works vice versa, with a process in which I create something digitally, in Illustrator or Photoshop, and then use that as a guide or print it out and cut it up or paint over it to add to a physical composition. With both the physical and digital worlds at my fingertips, the possibilities are endless.
In addition, my intentionally thought-provoking pieces usually explore the similarities and differences between certain things and how new ideas are created when you put them together, as well as the consequences of combining things that may not work well together all the time. It is not easy to smash two things together and make it work—it takes skill to balance aspects from two separate worlds without creating disorganized chaos, which is just fancy words for a mess. I don’t go for messes. I work towards creating harmony and unity between things that too often are assumed to be dissonant. Of course they won’t always work perfectly together, but there is always a way, and I want to show people those ways. I want to challenge the assumptions society has formed and present it with proof that different ideas, different people, different ideologies can indeed exist together, and maybe even work better together.
